We think it’s valuable for us as rope bondage / kinksters to ask ourselves - why are we doing these things? What are we gaining in the practice and pursuit of specific kink skills? Come listen in on a discussion between a few of our Denver rope community members, and raise your questions as we discuss our various motivations for dedicating so much energy and time to learning and practicing rope bondage. Learn how our reasons and motivations vary widely, and gain insight into the popularity and growth of the rope bondage community.

Feral aka @rope_amine (she/they)

Feral is a sadomasochistic switch. They were a casual rope bottom and kinkster for years before deciding to take her ties into her own hands in 2023. They completed the Studio Friction curriculum in early 2024 and have been focused on rigging since then. 

She is inspired by rope as a means of self-expression, physical embodiment, mental transcendence, and interpersonal connection. They particularly enjoy combining rope with her love of the outdoors, embracing chaos rope, as well as flying and rigging dynamic suspensions. Her favorite ties blend playful spontaneity with intentionally curated mental and physical challenges. 

Zach (he/him) @sal_

Zach joined the shibari community in Denver in April 2024 as a rope top, diving deep into online self learning and local classes. Captivated by the intricate and difficult nature of the art, he finds excitement in presenting and capturing the resilience and strength of his partners with a focus on dynamic suspensions. He loves the connection created challenging his partners through shibari, turning a simple pile of rope into an intricate art, with a sadistic twist.

BetwixtBlushes (she/her)

BetwixtBlushes is a regular in the Denver scene since 2015. She is an enthusiast of discussion groups, bottoms speaking up (especially in class), and thigh high socks. If you hear giggling, she's often the culprit.

Switchtext (he/him)

Switchtext is a designer and a co-founder of Studio Friction. He is more interested in sensations and understanding the elements of rope bondage than mastering someone’s specific pattern. Switchtext has been tying for 18 years. He has learned so much in that time and enjoys knowing he has so much more to learn.

Emily, (she,her)

Emily is a rope switch in Denver. Initially starting her journey in rope as a bottom, she eventually moved into self suspension and then topping as well. Today she is active in the community, taking classes and attending all the events she can! She is passionate about bottom education and instruction, and creating an environment where everyone feels represented and welcome"

SirTolerance (he, him)

SirTolerance joined the rope community and Studio Friction in late 2023. Initially enamored with the technicality of Shibari, he quickly fell in love with the intimacy that rope allows. SirTolerance enjoys sadistic, dynamic suspension that challenges bottoms and brings connection with whomever he is tying. When he is at Studio, you can find him tying on the wall with a foot taco or two. He is passionate about making rope accessible for everyone and is adaptable in his rope to suit the needs of the person in his rope.
